The 31-year-old international midfielder was stretched in the Reds’ 2-0 win over Gouna on Sunday.
Ahly’s television channel said on Monday that analyzes had been carried out and it had been determined that he would not be available for two months. The domestic season is scheduled to end on August 30.
El-Sulaya’s injury adds to Ahly’s woes as the team are already missing a host of players through injuries.
Striker Mohamed Sherif and winger Hussein El Shahat are already in power for the remainder of this campaign.
Percy Tau, Luis Miquissone and Mohamed Mahmoud have just resumed training, while Taher Mohamed Taher, Akram Tawfik and Mohamed Abdel-Moneim are still unavailable.
Ahly has struggled with injuries this season with match congestion which has seen the team play every three days leading to repeated injuries.
“I don’t know who put such a schedule in place, but it’s very harmful and we lose players every game. Today I lost three players to injury. I don’t know how to deal with it. that,” coach Ricardo Soares said during the post-match conference on Sunday.
Ahly will face Maqassa on Wednesday to trail leader Zamalek, who has a nine-point lead but has played two more games.
