GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers offensive tackle David Bakhtiari is on the physically unable to perform list, the latest setback in his recovery from a knee injury that saw him miss most of the 2021 season.
The Packers gave Bakhtiari the designation on Saturday, four days before holding their first practice at training camp. Players placed on this list in training camp can be activated at any time but cannot train until they have passed a physical exam.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur had expressed cautious optimism during team activities held last month that his star left tackle would be available for the start of training camp.
“We expect him to be ready to go, but we did last year as well,” LaFleur said at the time. “So I think time will tell. But we feel good about the work he has done and where he is.

Bakhtiari, 30, has only played one game since torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on December 31, 2020, a week shy of earning first-team All-Pro honors for the second time in his career. He returned to play 27 snaps in the Packers’ 2021 regular season finale, but was held on of their NFC Divisional Playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Colorado’s 2013 fourth-round pick was a first-team All-Pro in 2018 and 2020. He was selected to the second team in the 2017 and 2019 All-Pro ballot.
