Sham Umarov commits to Tennessee for Georgia football

One of the nation’s top offensive line prospects, Sham Umarov committed to Tennessee rather than Georgia State and Michigan.

Umarov is one of the highest ranked players in Georgia State, residing in high school in Denmark. He is originally of Scandinavian descent, now in the United States, Umarov burst onto the national recruiting scene ahead of his junior season. Now a rising senior, he will take his talents to Tennessee in college.

As to why, Umarov told SI All-American’s Matt Ray that it was about communication and relations with Volunteer staff:

“Just the way coaches are. From the start, all the coaches I spoke to were exactly the same and spoke to me in exactly the same way. As I signed on, some of the other coaches were slowly resuming communication with me. They change like, ‘oh, let me start talking to him more because he’s about to commit, so let’s try to convince him. But no, Coach Elarbee, Coach Golesh, Coach Houdie, Coach Abe and Coach Heupel; they were all the same throughout the recruitment process. The relationship we have built is just amazing. I love them because being with them really makes me feel comfortable. I have the impression that they are very honest and open people. So whatever I have to say they will take it with respect and always want to improve me of course. It’s with every coach, but I just feel like it’s different with this coaching staff and Coach Elarbee.

Georgia will continue to be selective with its remaining offensive line spots limited in the 2023 class. With Bo Hughley and Joshua Miller already committed to the class, there is little room left for others to join.
