Take a deep breath of fresh air for Michigan football fans. Relax your mind and focus. Take everything into account. What thoughts are going through your brain this week? Excitation? Fear? Indifference? How are you feeling about the Michigan football team this week? When was the last time YOUR Michigan Wolverines football team had the chance to play a game with Big Ten Championship stakes on the line? Hmm, yeah, it’s been a minute, hasn’t it?
Thinking back to your predictions before the start of this 21-22 season, how many wins did you expect for Michigan? Seven? Eight? A maximum of nine? Well guess what? Michigan exceeded your expectations. So, congratulations to the team for that.
I just want to say that no matter what happens on Saturday (whether it’s a win or a loss) this season has been a lot more fun and awesome than most of us could have imagined. Who would have expected Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo to combine for more than 20 sacks? !! Did you really expect high school to be on the edge of the elite this year?
Did you really think that Andrel Anthony would finish with over 150 receiving yards in a game this year? !! (yes, but in a loss). Did you think Hassan and Blake would add almost 2,000 rushing yards this season combined in between? !! And the emergence of Erick All? !!
Few of us could have imagined that any of the above scenarios would come true for Michigan football this year. The team have played really well this season, and even at their lowest points, have always clawed and fought, and never looked down.
Michigan football has exceeded all expectations
When we all wanted Jim Harbaugh to leave this offseason and bring him back, we didn’t expect a complete turnaround like this to happen. Everyone was on the Matt Campbell hype train, and the last time I checked he is struggling mightily in the mediocre Big-12 this season. So much for Matt who is the “savior of Michigan football”.
Do you want to know the best part of this season? Well, even though Michigan has been in the playoff race since the very start of the season, next season could be even better than this season. Imagine that. Did you think a 10-2, 11-1 regular season was good? Well, just think that a 12-0 regular season could happen next year.
While not everything went as planned for Michigan this year, I want everyone to catch their breath and just think about the road it took for Michigan to even be in position with so much on the line. Enjoy it for Michigan fans. Enjoy the rest of this season.
By the end of this season, Aidan Hutchinson, Ryan Hayes, Andrew Vastardis, Hassan Haskins, Daxton Hill, David Ojabo, Josh Ross and Brad Hawkins will likely all be gone. All of these guys were third year or higher in the program. That’s a ton of veteran leadership that leaves after this season is over.
So no matter what happens on Saturday, all things considered this season has been a huge success. Am I writing Michigan against OSU? Surely not. The Wolverines have one of the best shots to beat OSU as they have in a long, long time. But this season as a whole has made me more thankful and grateful for the unexpected joys this season has brought.
And with Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s more time than ever to express what Michigan fans should be grateful for. Let’s all have a good week (stress free, it’s the holidays!), Eat a lot and above all, Go Blue!
